Herniated Disc

A herniated (slipped) disc happens when the soft center of a spinal disc pushes through its outer wall and presses on nearby nerves.

What it is

Spinal discs cushion the bones of your spine. When a disc's outer layer tears, the inner gel can bulge out and irritate or compress a nerve root, causing pain that can radiate into the arms or legs.

Common symptoms

  • Sharp or burning pain in the back or neck
  • Pain radiating into an arm or leg
  • Numbness or tingling
  • Muscle weakness

How we treat it

Most herniated discs improve with conservative care. When pain persists, we offer minimally invasive options such as microdiscectomy and decompression to relieve nerve pressure with a small incision and faster recovery.

This page is general education, not medical advice. Our specialists provide diagnosis and a personalized plan.
